End of Life Doulas exist to walk with individuals and families leading up to death. The chief aim is to help facilitate meaning and purpose and process grief. At its core, End of Life Doula services seek to be open-hearted and create a space to listen to the life stories, fears, and hopes of the dying person and those who love them.
Perhaps the clearest vision comes from the International End of Life Doula Association, "The doula meets with the dying person and their loved ones where they are emotionally and spiritually. The doula assists all involved to find a way to live their dying in the best way possible for them. At the same time, the doula will utilize their experience and expertise to offer expanded view of dying that can bring greater meaning and comfort to this intense process. "
Michelle's work as an End of Life Doula is focused on two areas: helping individuals and families create a vision around what they want their individual final days to consist of and creating rituals for death and remembrance. In other words, she accompanies people in finding purpose and meaning at the end of their life.
Michelle has been accompanying people at the end of their lives as a pastor since 2010. However, following the death of her beloved Pap in 2021, she felt the need to expand what it means to accompany people at their last moments to a longer time period before death - helping people to know the impact they have made.
Michelle is currently working towards her certification as an End of Life Doula after taking INELDA's End of Life Doula Training in 2021.
Initial consultations around services are 50 minutes in length and are free.
Additional services are available in packaged format.
Package 1: Creating a Vision for Transition - 3 x 2 hours $250
Here we will discuss what you value, how you want to spend your last days, and any dreams or wishes you would like to work towards. Michelle will help train your family and friends in helping your vision become a reality, to the best of their ability.
Package 2: Creating Rituals and Remembrance - 5 x 1 hour $200
